General Description:
Assessment & Managment of Psychopathic Personality Disorder: This course is offered in a condensed format as extended workshops, focusing on acquisition of practical skills as well as familiarization with relevant research findings.


I will be teaching the course, with guest appearances by local and international experts.


Course Objectives:

This course will take place at Harbour Centre. Dates and times will be as follows:

* Monday 3 June to Thursday 6 June, 2002, from 0930 to 1630 hrs.

* Monday 10 June to Thursday 13 June, 2002, from 0930 to 1630 hrs.

The first week will focus on assessment issues, and will include training in the use of the Hare PCL-R, PCL:SV, and PCL:YV.

The second week will focus on management issues, and will include discussion of the role of psychopathy in criminal behavior, treatment of psychopathy, and supervision strategies.

Note: It is possible to receive credit for PSYC 806/807 instead of PSYC 990,if so desired.


General Comments:
Attendance will be limited to 10 students: First priority will be given to students in the Law and Psychology program, for whom these courses are program requirements, as well as to graduate students in the Forensic Area at UBC or other SFU and UBC programs.

Second priority will be given to graduate students from other universities. Senior undergraduates also may register, although preference will be given to graduate students.


Required Text(s):
There will be no required texts; all materials, including test manuals and scoresheets (where permitted by law), will be available through the instructor at nominal cost (about $75 per course).

Evaluation:
Grades will be based on participation and completion of written, in-class exercises.
